I recently got a very odd problem with Windows 10 network sharing. I'm able to access the other PC that is connected on the same network on my laptop that has this problem but that working PC does not see my laptop on the shared network, though both the laptop and PC are in same work group and network.

After running the troubleshooter, it says the remote device or resource won't accept the connection.I have no idea what happened. I went away for two weeks and now my Win 10 desktop won't open network places previously saved, network drive maps already created and I can't see more than a few machines on the whole network from the file explorer. All the servers ping OK and I can remote to them, but I can't even see the shares from windows let alone access any. Every other user is W7 or OSX and has no issues.

It sounds like the network doesn't trust your computer. Make sure your clock time matches the domain. Try rejoining the domain. The denied is like he is logging into the computer with a local vs AD account, but just a guess. Good time to install logmein free on the system so you can remote access before he gets locked out!

Are you using the internal server as your primary DNS? Are you connecting via wireless, or wired connection as it could be the connection is not connecting fast enough for it to establish the network connections? Also do you have any pending updates? I seem to see very strange glitches etc when there is a pending restart required for an update.

Go in Change advanced sharing settings and make sure you have the right settings in there. Maybe an update messed it up. Thanks Adam, but there's no pending updates, static wired IP properly configured etc etc. Internet access is OK as is everything bar file shares and network discovery in the file browser. Oddest thing is that a W10 VM running on the same workstation has no problem reading everything as expected. Mattheiu - Already been there, and I also disabled windows firewall and there's no AV in the way either.

Alright let's go back to the basics then. You can ping the machines containing the shares Can you post the error you are getting when you are trying to access the shares? Remove all the network drive attached, go in registry and make sure the entries containing cached credentials have been removed :. Update - switched back to original static IP, all still good - whatever it was that flipped me out I have no idea!

I have been using windows since Windows1. I updated laptop beginning of December, had problems connecting through a share to another pc, kept getting share name not spelt right, missing protocols on this computer. Today decided to sort it out spent several checking, I could ping from and to laptop from other pc's. Could see and access the laptop share from the other pcs but couldn't access them through the share on the laptop.

Tried searching the web tried various things, came across this post and remembered that I had to do something like this years back on an old Microsoft version. Many thanks for this. Recently upgraded all PCs to Windows 10 Pro. All other PCs can access shared drives on 2 of the PCs with no problem.

windows 10 cannot access network share

Randomly, the shared PCs in question did not appear in the Network in Explorer, but have since come back. I have pfsense set-up at home and a site to site connected Ipsec connection to an ipcop at H. I had the same problem: w10pro unable to access remote shared folder. Ping worked fine. Previous posted solutions did not work for me. Just change "allow windows to manage homegroup connections Greetings to all from Romania. I created an account just to post it, hope it helps someone else too.The specific actions that you need to take depend on the error that appears in Windows 10 when you trying to access the shared folder, and on the settings of the remote SMB server that hosts the network shares.

Starting with the Windows 10 build Fall Creators Update Enterprise and Education editionsusers began to complain that when they tried opening a network shared folder on a nearby computer, an error appeared:. These policies help protect your PC from unsafe or malicious devices on the network. Moreover, on other computers with Windows 8. The point is that in modern versions of Windows 10 starting from buildthe guest access to the shared folders using the SMBv2 protocol is disabled by default.

Guest anonymous means access to a shared network folder without authentication. In this case, Microsoft recommends changing the settings on a remote computer or NAS device that hosts the network folders.

It is advisable to switch the network share to the SMBv3 mode. Or configure access with authentication if only the SMBv2 protocol is supported by the device. This is the most correct and safest way to fix the problem. Depending on the device on which network folders are stored, you must disable guest access on them:. There is another way — you can change the settings on your Windows 10 computer to allow access to shared network folders under the guest account. This method should be used only as a temporary workaround!!!

To enable access under the guest account from your computer, you need to use the Group Policy Editor gpedit. Find and enable the policy Enable insecure guest logons. In Windows 10 Home, which does not have a local GPO editoryou can make a similar change through the registry editor with the command:. Another possible problem when accessing a network folder from Windows 10 is server-side support of the SMBv1 protocol only. Since the SMBv1 client is disabled by default in Windows 10 and newer, when you try to open the shared folder, you may get an error:.

The error message clearly shows that the network shared folder supports access over the SMBv1 protocol only. If you use Samba server on Linux to share network folders, you can specify the minimum supported version of SMB protocol in the smb. On Windows 8. But this is not recommended!!! In this example, I enabled only the SMBv1 client. After installing the SMBv1 client, you should be able to connect to a shared folder or printer without any problems.

However, you should understand that using this workaround is not recommended, because this reduces the level of protection for your system. This share requires the obsolete SMB1 protocol, which is unsafe and could expose your system to attack. Thank you! Really useful information but now I am unsure on why it is insecure and what to do.
